- I believe movement is medicine, and I am here to start fires. I grew up in a Puerto Rican and Cuban household. I'm a proud Latina. I am a mother to be. I am a reformed lawyer, turned ultra-marathoner, turned New York Times best-selling author of "Shut Up and Run." I am also the vice president of fitness programming at Peloton and head instructor. If you're coming to this class expecting me to teach you the nuts and bolts of fitness, I'm going to surprise you. Because we're going to be applying the principles of movement and fitness to business, and storytelling, and swagger, and the ways that we can level up in every area of our lives. Even if you don't consider yourself an athlete, even if you also, like I used to, think that you are allergic to exercise, the principles of endurance power, stregnth-- they apply to all of us. They apply to every industry, every day. I was not an athlete, as a kid. I was the straight-A student, I was the arts and crafts kid, but I was petrified of gym class. I would feign illness to get out of gym class. So the fact that movement and working out is actually my life's work would have been astonishing definitely to me and everyone around me. When I was entering my senior year at NYU, I was held hostage at gunpoint. And I became a pseudo negotiator between the NYPD outside, and the perpetrator inside, and I had a gut instinct to humanize the situation. I remember, just cut-- my inner monologue was: this is not the end to my story. That chapter of my life was one of the most painful but also one of the most transformative. So when I survived that incident, I had to figure out what story I was going to write. I went to law school and I just continued being the straight-A student that I knew how to be, but I did feel like there was this energetic weight on me one to two years later. That was when I started running. I just felt compelled to physically run it out and that became my moving therapy. I was able to find power and find agency within my own body, and that was incredibly healing. Every day, we have an opportunity to wake up and decide whether we're going to be a victim or a victor, and I had to make the choice to be victorious. I'm going to show you how movement, sweat, and fuel, can all be critical tools for leveling up to the next area of your life. We're going to talk about time management, and the ability to brand yourself and leverage yourself, specifically using principles of hustle and swagger. We're going to talk about creative inspiration, and ways to honor superheroes in your life, ways to create dreams using things like journaling, and visualization techniques. We're going to get uncomfortable in this class, discomfort directly relates to pride. This class is for anyone who seeks another level. This class is for anyone who has a glimmer of curiosity about what's possible for themselves. (LAUGHING) Mommy's doing MasterClass today. You're going to learn lesso...
