[MUSIC PLAYING] - Hustle is my favorite word. I think hustle, of course, involves an element of grit and work ethic. But it's not just grinding to grind. It's not working the most hours for the sake of saying you work the most hours. There's an element of marrying grit with purpose that creates hustle. And that's why developing a hustler's mindset is so important, because the hustler is willing to work as many hours as it takes, is willing to identify the impediments and work around them, is willing to make a weakness a strength again and again. But it's not to somebody else's finish line. It's to their own. So I was a corporate litigator in New York City in the thick of it, 80 hours a week, making really good money, by all accounts successful. And I realized that I was leading a divorced existence. I was finding most of my hours were not joy-filled at all, or purpose-filled, for that matter. The flow, the joy happened in the run. It happened during movement. So I had to ask myself, how the heck am I going to pay my rent running? How is a pair of running shoes going to help me get to this new life? The 2012 Olympic Games in London were coming up. And I decided, okay, this is my moment. If I want to interview athletes, if I want to be around these stories of sport, which, I mean, it doesn't get much more iconic than the Olympics, I had to be there. I quit my law job. I booked a ticket to London that was way more expensive than I could afford. I think the ticket was so last-minute that it cost more than my New York City rent, really horrifying. But I just had a gut instinct that I needed to be in London. And in London I got to meet these incredible athletes, some of whom are my friends now, which if you would told me that then, I would not have believed a word out of your mouth. And I told everyone who I met in London I just left my law firm job, I'm passionate about wellness, I love running, I want to write about running. So I think at that point, I was dubbing myself a blogger or a journalist. And it wasn't until I was working, doing social media and started working on my book, that I then read about Peloton. And that was when the light bulb went off. Oh, this is the marriage of movement and storytelling and technology that you've been searching for. I actually joined Peloton from a single email. I emailed the company cold and I was like we need to be working together. You should hire me. And I had a contract 48 hours later. That makes no sense, none. But I bet on myself. And I started with one email. And then that email turned into one conversation. And that one conversation turned into one audition. That one audition turned into one contract. And that one contract is a new career. It just goes to show that when you bet on yourself and marry that with purpose and are able to tell a story that is passionate, the right people are going to listen. Pain is power, period. In the moment when...
