[00:00:00.00] [MUSIC - JUSTIN BIEBER, "SORRY"] [00:00:00.95] MUSIC: Oh, oh. Sorry, yeah. Oh, oh. [00:00:07.16] PARRIS GOEBEL: Let's break down the music video that I directed and choreographed for Justin Bieber: "Sorry." [00:00:12.26] [MUSIC - JUSTIN BIEBER, "SORRY"] [00:00:13.16] MUSIC: Oh, oh. [00:00:16.33] PARRIS GOEBEL: This video was unique because it was one of the first music videos to go viral, but it didn't feature the artist. [00:00:22.73] [MUSIC - JUSTIN BIEBER, "SORRY"] [00:00:23.23] MUSIC: Oh, sorry, yeah. Oh, oh. Sorry. [00:00:31.13] PARRIS GOEBEL: Just kind of happened. So last minute I get a call from Justin Bieber and he's like, we need a video clip in two days. You know, he's like, oh, it's actually going to be a lyric video. So I'm like, cool, we'll just, we'll shoot it in a white studio so they can write the lyrics around it. So keeping in mind that originally it had all these lyrics above us, around us, and Justin's like, wait, get rid of the lyrics. This is the video. So this shot wasn't done in post, we actually stood in a row and the camera panned us. So this is in real time, we're actually here. And then the camera keeps going and this group is actually here. [00:01:13.17] So none of that's done in post. Because I was pretty much new to directing and I didn't know about all these fancy tricks you could do post, and that you didn't have to film everyone in a row like that. So, being the amateur that I was, I had everyone lined up. We're actually right here. And then we move to the next group. They're actually right there. And then she actually pops up in front of the camera. That's all real time. She pops up and she drops. So this is one take right here. Go from this group to her, and then this group here. And then we're actually popping up in front of camera. And this group is actually behind us, so there's not really much magic going on in post. We're doing all of this, we're rehearsing this to perfect it, we're doing it in one take, and it's probably something no one knows about the video, actually. [00:02:15.58] Even for myself and Bianca to pop up and perfectly land with half of our bodies in the frame is something we had to practice and practice and practice and perfect, it was crazy. And to have these girls directly center of the frame, as well. But it's just tapping into that preparation and making sure like in rehearsals you're using your phone, you're perfecting the frame, so when it comes to the day of the shoot you know exactly what you want. And it might take a few takes, but I think once you get it you're going to just feel satisfied and be like that's it. So that definitely took some work, but we got there. [00:02:56.32] [MUSIC - JUSTIN BIEBER, "SORRY"] [00:02:56.79] MUSIC: I just need one more shot at forgiveness. [00:03:02.05] PARRIS GOEBEL: So for all this stuff basically I just shot all this choreography super, super clean. And because it was in a white room, I could change kind of the scope...
