[MUSIC PLAYING] - We always have these delusions where we think we're perfect, and we think that everybody loves us. We think everybody likes us. You know, some might say, hey, do your players like you? They love me. How do you know? Because they do! Then, if you ask the players, like, what's Coach Auriemma like? They're not all gonna say, I love him. So, what I think I am and what they think I am could be two completely different things. So it doesn't matter what I think I am. What matters is what I've-- what have I been able to get across to them and what do they think of the way I coach them. And, if they respect me for the way I coach them, then I'm happy. They don't have to like me. I don't need any more 18-year-old friends. I've had them when I was 18. I need their respect, though. And I have to earn it every day. Now, I try to. [MUSIC PLAYING] My leadership style, it would be described as I know what I want. I know what I have to do. I know how to help you. And, when I don't know, I tell you I don't know. I don't pretend. I don't lie to my players and give them a bullshit answer. That's just not gonna happen. Because you're gonna find out it was, and then they're not gonna trust me. So they know everything I say to them is because I know. And, when I tell them I don't know, they respect that. So my leadership style is, basically, let my assistant coaches do all the work that has to be done, delegate as much as I can, try to get players that want what we have, and allow people to be successful and don't micromanage the situation. So my leadership style is, I brought you here for a reason, do it. Do what you came here to do. And, if you have to check with me every five minutes on what to do, then I brought in the wrong person. My players would describe my leadership style as, he's a perfectionist. He bitches about every little thing. The minute it's done a hair wrong, he's all over it. And, if I do something eight times in a row and get it wrong the ninth time, all he remembers is the ninth time I did it wrong. But he wants me to be great. And I know that everything he does is meant to help me be better. And now, even more now, at this stage of my career, I tell them, listen, winning one more championship doesn't change my life one iota. But we have 10 freshmen and sophomores next year. If they win their first championship, their life changes forever. So they know, I don't need this. I'm doing it because I still want to see that look on your face that we talked about, where you just light up because we just did something that you've always wanted to do since you were a kid. [MUSIC PLAYING] A good leader can galvanize everyone into a team. By what? Stating a common goal. All right, look, we have a problem here. And I have to find a solution for this. But first, I have to admit that there's a problem. Second, I have to identify what the problem is. And third, I have to give them a strategy...
