[FUNKY MUSIC PLAYING] GENO AURIEMMA: Now we're going to talk about goals. Setting goals, how to track those goals, how to achieve the goals that we want to achieve, both for each individual and for our team. And this might be one of the more difficult things to do that we're going to talk about. Goals are not New Year's resolutions, and goals are not wishes. They're meant to be concrete. They're meant to be achievable, but at the same time the bar has got to be set realistically high. I've been guilty at times of setting the bar so high that even we can't reach it. And the goal-- unfortunately or fortunately-- at Connecticut every year is win a national championship. And that has to be the overriding goal, but it's not possible to win a national championship every year. It's not possible for you and your company and any company, you know, if you track the stock market, to achieve their goals every quarter, every year, without having a down year. It's not possible. However, putting yourself in a position where you can do it and there's a good chance you're going to be able to do it, that's more important. Because that means year after year after year after year you are in a position to achieve the ultimate goal, which is win a national championship for us. [FUNKY MUSIC PLAYING] Who sets the individual goals? Well, it's a collaboration and what do you expect from yourself this year. This is where you were last year, this is how last year went, now we're starting a new year. What are your expectations for yourself? What would you like to see happen this year for you? Try to think forward now to the end of the season, we're going to be looking back, what would you like to have accomplished? Individually first. Write it down. Write it down so I can see it and we keep it. And then when we're talking two months from now and I go you wrote this down. You said you wanted to do this. Are you? Not really. What are we going to do about it? We do this for school and we do this for basketball. The conversation that I have is contrary to what you might think you are responsible for your success here. If you fail or if you succeed, it's because of you. So don't expect me to make sure you're successful. Don't make me responsible for your failures. You have total control over your success and your failure. So it starts with you and it ends with you. We are here to give you all the resources you need to accomplish that. That's everybody on the team. Well, a reason why I didn't do this is because-- no, no, no, no. The reason why it didn't get done it's because you didn't do it. So where are you going to go from there now? What other excuse are you going to give? So we have another saying at school. There's only two reasons why you don't do something. One, you don't know how. Well, then we have to teach you. Two, you don't feel like it. If you don't know how, we have to work with you until you d...
