[MUSIC PLAYING] - Once you've hired your staff, however many of them there are, whatever you need, the next thing now is, since we're talking about a sport here, the actual people that are going to be playing, playing the game. So for you, it's the actual people that are going to be doing the work that the staff that you hired is going to manage and train. So knowing what kind of player you want, knowing how to find them, where to look, knowing how to get them to come to your school, how to get them to come work for you, and then how to make them better, that's the process in how teams come together. If I had to play and my success depended on how well I play, you and I wouldn't be having this discussion right now. There'd be no MasterClass or me talking to you about anything. So coaches get a lot of credit-- too much credit-- for winning when really it's the players who win. You-- you win with people, right? People say that. There's books written about that. I've-- I had somebody say to me one time, you know, the only time you've ever won a championship is when you had, like, great players. I said, okay, tell me the names of the coaches who won championships with lousy players, with bad players. It's not going to happen. So you have to get the best players, and then you have to train them, teach them, and coach them to their ability and beyond. You and your staff have to do that. And your success, then, is measured in how well you can do that job. [MUSIC PLAYING] When I tell people we're looking for a kid that fits Connecticut, generally speaking now, when we're out there, most everybody knows-- if they say, where's that kid going, they go, that kid's going to Yukon. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I can see that. So the characteristics that they have-- one, they're really talented. So right away, you know, they would expect us to be involved with that kid. Two, they're unselfish. Well, how do I know they're unselfish? Well, I watch them play, and I watch how they react when things go badly for them. Three, they're great teammates. How do I know that? I watch how they treat their teammates. Well, you don't watch how many points they score? Who cares? I watch what happens when a coach takes them out, what happens when a ref makes a bad call, what happens when they throw a pass and it bounces off their teammate's head and they-- the look of disgust at their teammates. Next, can they pass? Because if you can't pass, generally speaking, you can't play for us. If we have 10 high school Americans, one of them's going to be open. And if you can't pass it to them, we got a problem. If you don't want to pass it to them, we got a problem. So what does finding someone who has a willingness to pass? Well, they're unselfish. They love that pass. Well, then they're a great teammate. So it all comes together, see? [MUSIC PLAYING] You know, if you have a company that's world leader, you d...
