Clove hitch knots can tie around cylindrical or rectangular objects and provide a decent binding grip. To learn to tie a clove hitch knot, follow these simple, step-by-step instructions.

1. 1. Wrap your rope. Wrap the working end of the rope around the object and back over its standing part so that it forms an “X” in the front.
2. 2. Thread your rope. Wrap the working end of the rope around the back of the object again, then pull the free end through the “X” on the front of the object you have already created.
   
3. 3. Pull your rope. Pull both ends of the rope in opposite directions to tighten and secure your knot.
