[MUSIC PLAYING] - In this lesson, I will present a series of key actionable points that can ensure you get the most out of meetings. First, let's go through my checklist for this form of communication. Every meeting should have a clear purpose. Why are you meeting? Is the objective to exchange information? Is it to make a decision? So I think before you go into the meeting, have a clear idea of why you're meeting as a group because you're taking a lot of people's time to come together for something. What is that something? It would be nice if anybody who calls the meeting has a one page, which says what's the meeting for, what kind of decisions are being expected to come out of this. Are all the key people who need to be in the meeting in the meeting and do you have people who don't need to be in the meeting, who are in the meeting? Sometimes what happens is in a hierarchy, people say, I just want to be in every meeting because it shows importance. So then what happens is you just have a lot of people in the room but they're not all decision makers. So you've got to set a culture in the company, which says only the people that need to be in a meeting should be at a meeting. So it's not a badge if you attend every meeting. At the end of the meeting, the person who is the head of the table should always go around and ask everybody else do you have anything else to add, so that any quiet voices are allowed to speak up. It's very, very important because sometimes people just feel like they're not going to be heard, or people talk over them. But make sure you go through every person and say do you have anything to add and are you sure you agree with the outcome? Make sure you go through the room. And then, at the end of the meeting, or the day after, somebody should put out a note saying these were the objectives of the meeting. Did we fulfill the objectives? Unless it's the CEO. If I call a meeting, and we have the meeting, the division president or the business head should put out a note saying, we met with the CEO. This is what came out. So I think it's very important that every meeting has accountability, every meeting has a next step, every meeting leads to some action or decision. [MUSIC PLAYING] I think that if you set up rules like that for meetings, you can actually have a meaningful conversation or discussion about the issue and get to an answer. [MUSIC PLAYING] Now, let me show you how to stand out from the crowd in every room. Be careful how you behave in meetings. Especially the more junior you are, the more senior the people are in the room, just show up the right way. Don't fake a personality, but show up the right way. So I'm not just looking at the presenter. I'm always looking at the people around the room to say, are people giving me an eye contact? Are people engaging with me? Some young people, they'll talk to each other, saying, this is all bullshit, or they'll ro...
