[00:00:00.00] [LIGHTHEARTED MUSIC] [00:00:15.40] - I have a system known as the housetraining triangle that will get you from point A to point B in an extremely efficient amount of time. The process is very simple, but I want you to understand the details because the details are everything. [00:00:28.73] We're going to go from the crate to outside, back in the house, back in the crate, completing the triangle. Now, I'm going to talk through each and every one of these. The crate, number one-- very important-- crate size is key. I don't want the crate too big, because if the crate's too big, the dog can sleep on one side, walk over here, and go to the bathroom on the other. If the crate is too small, it's uncomfortable for the dog, and you'll have a hell of a time getting the dog in there. [00:00:55.14] Number two, make sure the crate is comfy-- comfy bed. Put some toys in there, things your dog likes. It's not punishment. You actually want the dog to enjoy their time in there. [00:01:04.22] Number three, crate placement. Where you place this crate is vital. You don't want to have that crate all the way in the back of the house. That way, when you pull the dog out, you have to walk them 75 feet to the back door to get them to the backyard. I guarantee, in that huge amount of distance walking them to the back door, they're going to go to the bathroom. Trust me, when they've been in that crate for a little while, they're going to have to use the bathroom right away. So you want to place that crate preferably by the door you're taking the dog out of. [00:01:33.59] Here's how the entire process works. We're going to back up to the night before. Before you put the dog in the crate, I want you to make sure you take the dog outside. Let them do their business. If they do their business outside, you reward them heavily. Give them a treat, heavy praise. [00:01:49.46] From there, we're going to put them in the crate, and this is where they're going to sleep at night. By the way, you're going to have a few sleepless nights because puppies cannot hold it the same way adult dogs can. So if they start crying at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning, you might have to take them outside. [00:02:05.30] Assuming that you lucked out and they slept all night, first thing in the morning, you're going to put a leash on them. You do not open that crate and then go find their leash. I promise you, in the first 20 seconds, if you open that crate and give them the option to go in the house, they're going to take it. Put them on a leash. You make a beeline for that outside. Guaranteed within the first 20 to 30 seconds, they're going to go pee. [00:02:28.43] So whatever your command might be-- get busy, do your business, go potty-- it's up to you. But just make sure whatever you say you stay consistent on that exact same command. Don't be switching it up every other day. Your dog understands that that command will be connected with what they're doing. [00:02:45.56] The mome...
