How to Make Your Lips Look Bigger: 7 Makeup Tips
You can make your lips look fuller and poutier with the right beauty products. Here are skincare hacks and makeup tips to help make your pucker appear full:
- 1. Add a bit of shine. Glossy products attract light and attention to your lips, making even nude lips look fuller and hydrated. Dab a small amount of highlighter, shimmer, or high-shine clear lip gloss to the middle of your lips. Brush a small amount of highlighter or pearlescent eye shadow onto your cupid’s bow for extra effect.
- 2. Consider lip plumper. Lip plumpers use collagen peptides or natural, mild irritants like peppermint, cinnamon, or cayenne to react with your lip skin, increase blood flow, and cause your lips to swell slightly. While plumping glosses can make your lips look bigger, use these products with caution if you have sensitive, dry skin or allergies.
- 3. Exfoliate dead skin. Remove the dry, flaky dead skin cells on your lips for a fuller-looking pout. Use a soft toothbrush or DIY lip scrub to exfoliate lips. Avoid exfoliating more than once a week since too much exfoliation can irritate your skin and make your lips drier.
- 4. Keep your lips hydrated. Dehydrated lips appear thinner and drier. If you keep your lips hydrated, they will naturally look plumper, fuller, and healthier. The best way to keep your lips moisturized is to drink enough water throughout the day and regularly apply moisturizing products like lip oil or lip balm.
- 5. Overline your lips with a lip pencil. Use lip liner to trace slightly outside of your natural lip line to create the appearance of large, plump lips. Here’s a tutorial for this makeup trick: Begin with your lower lip and use a liner that matches your skin tone and lip color. Start at the middle of your lips and trace just below your lower lip line. Continue in an upward motion out from the center until you reach the corner of your lips. Repeat on your upper lips, then fill the outline with liquid lipstick.
- 6. Try two tones of color. You can use two different lipstick colors to create an illusion of depth and shadow. For this lip look, apply a darker shade of product on the outside corners and a lighter shade in the center of your lips on both your top and bottom lips. Blend the two colors for a natural lip fade. This ombré lip creates a fading effect and gives the illusion of a fuller pout.
- 7. Use extra concealer after your lip product. Applying concealer after your lipstick creates well-defined lines, helping draw attention to your bold lips, especially if you use a bold color or try overlining. After you finish your lip color application, carefully apply concealer around the pigment to create a pronounced line between your lips and skin.
