6 Ways to Darken Eyebrows
There are multiple ways to get darker brows with makeup products and dyes:
- 1. Eyebrow pencil: The most common way to darken your eyebrows is to use an eyebrow pencil. Fill in your brows in small strokes, matching the direction of the growth of your brow hairs.
- 2. Eyebrow tint: Brow tinting is a beauty treatment that dyes your natural brow hairs darker to create the appearance of longer and fuller eyebrows. You can get this treatment at a salon or use an at-home brow tint kit. You can also make eyebrow tint by combining coffee grounds and/or cocoa powder with coconut oil.
- 3. Eyebrow gel: Eyebrow gel is a makeup product for filling your brows. An eyebrow tint comes with a bristle brush applicator, similar to a mascara wand. Dip the brush into the brow product, then swipe the brush in the direction of the hair growth. Wipe off the excess brow gel with a wet cotton swab.
- 4. Eyebrow palette: An eyebrow palette comes with multiple powders, similar to eyeshadow, that you can use to fill in your brows. It also comes with tools, including an eyebrow brush and spool brush for application. Use the eyebrow brush to apply the darkest color in the kit to your eyebrows in a short sweeping motion, then use the spoolie to blend out the lines. An eyebrow palette may also come with white or nude color as a highlighter. Place the highlighter under your brow arches to define them.
- 5. Henna: You can use henna, a vegetable dye, to color your eyebrows. Cover the area around your eyebrows with petroleum jelly to prevent the henna from staining your skin. Mix the henna with water to form a paste, then apply it using a spoolie brush or an angled brush.
- 6. Microblading: Microblading applies semi-permanent makeup to create the look of thick eyebrows. Microblading is similar to tattooing, but the needle does not penetrate your skin as deeply as a tattoo needle. Microblading will produce natural-looking, darker brows.
3 Tips for Darkening Eyebrows
Consider these tips and tricks for darkening your eyebrows:
- 1. Choose the right eyebrow color. Choose a brow pencil, gel, or dye a shade or two darker than your natural hair.
- 2. Shape your eyebrows. Before filling or dyeing your brows, create an eyebrow shape that compliments your face shape. To define the shape, you might remove hairs by tweezing, threading, or waxing.
- 3. Stimulate hair growth. A natural way to create thicker, darker brows is to stimulate hair growth. You can apply an eyebrow growth serum with vitamins, peptides, biotin, and castor oil. You can also simply use castor oil, olive oil, or coconut oil on your brows to strengthen the hair follicles and promote growth.
