What Are Uneven Eyebrows?
Uneven eyebrows occur when one set of brow hairs has a different shape, length, or arch than the other eyebrow. The shape of your eyebrows can appear uneven if you have patchy spots in your eyebrows or if your brow hairs extend longer on one side. Some eyebrows also differ in the arch, as one set of brow hairs grows higher than the other set.
What Causes Uneven Eyebrows?
Uneven eyebrows can occur naturally or result from cosmetic treatments. Uneven eyebrow threading, waxing, microblading, or plucking with tweezers can result in asymmetrical eyebrows. Botox injections can also result in uneven eyebrows because botox can impact how the muscles around your eyebrows move, resulting in asymmetry.
3 Tips to Fix Uneven Eyebrows
You can try beauty tips or permanent procedures to help correct brow asymmetry.
- 1. Consider permanent treatment options. If you want a long-term solution to fix uneven brows, consider an eyebrow tattoo, eyebrow surgery, or consistent cosmetic treatments. Different cosmetic procedures, such as eyelid surgery or a brow lift, can help treat the muscles in your eyebrows and make your eyebrows even. Before considering surgical options, consult your doctor to determine which procedure is best for you.
- 2. Give your eyebrows time to grow back. Excessive hair removal from too much waxing or overplucking your brows can disrupt the hair growth cycle and cause unevenness in your brows. A natural way to fix uneven eyebrows is to leave your brows untreated for twelve to fifteen weeks. During the growth period, your brow hairs can regrow into your natural eyebrow shape.
- 3. Use a hair growth serum. Makeup artists suggest using a hair growth serum to treat some types of uneven brows. If your eyebrows are uneven due to hair loss or sparse brow hairs, apply a growth serum to your eyebrows. Consistently using a hair growth serum can help your eyebrows grow fuller and thicker over time, resulting in an even eyebrow look.
How to Fix Uneven Eyebrows
Here’s a step-by-step tutorial to help you fix uneven eyebrows:
- 1. Brush your eyebrows. Using a spoolie or eyebrow comb, brush your eyebrows upward to even out the hairs and see where they fall. Brushing your eyebrows also helps extend the hairs, creating the appearance of voluminous eyebrows.
- 2. Check alignment of the bottoms of your eyebrows. Before reshaping your brow hairs, measure your eyebrows. This will help you identify where your eyebrows should start and end so you have an eyebrow look proportional to your facial features. To measure your eyebrows, position a clean makeup brush or spoolie at the top of the bridge of your nose, laying it straight across your nose to see if the bottoms of your eyebrows end at the same point—you can fill in any uneven patches with makeup.
- 3. Measure the endpoint of your eyebrows. To determine the endpoint of your eyebrows, position the makeup brush at the end of your nose, pointing the top toward the outer corner of your eye. Create a straight line with the brush from your nose to the edge of your eye and the end of your brow. Pluck any stray hairs past this point so your eyebrows end at the same spot.
- 4. Compare your natural arches. If one arch is higher than the other, pluck the low-arched brow to match the high-arched brow. When tweezing your arch, avoid overplucking the hairs, as this can create an exaggerated arch that looks unnatural. If you want to make your brow arch lower, fill in your eyebrows with makeup.
- 5. Use makeup to fill in your eyebrows. To create a symmetrical appearance, fill in your eyebrows with makeup. You can use different brow products—from an eyebrow pencil or powder to a tinted brow gel or pigmented pomade—to even out your eyebrows and create the appearance of full, thick brows. Select a brow pencil or powder that matches your natural hair color. As you apply the product, use upward motions to extend the length of your eyebrow hairs.
