6 Tools and Products for Filling in Eyebrows Naturally
These tools can help you create the appearance of fuller brows or shape your brows:
- 1. Eyebrow brush: Brow brushes come in various shapes and sizes. A spoolie is a type of eyebrow brush that resembles a mascara wand, with bristles that form a small point at the end. A traditional eyebrow brush resembles a comb and has longer bristles than a spoolie. If you have thick eyebrows, consider using a brush to tame and shape your brows, or try a spoolie brush to apply eyebrow makeup to thinner brows.
- 2. Eyebrow gel or pomades: Like mascara, brow gel comes in a tube with a wand applicator. You can find clear gels that hold your brow shape like hair gel or tinted formulas that add pigment to create full natural-looking eyebrows.
- 3. Eyebrow pencil: Like a pencil eyeliner, these products add pigment to help create defined brows. You can find eyebrow pencils at drugstores and beauty retailers, and they come in many shades to match different skin tones and hair colors.
- 4. Eyebrow powder: An alternative to pencils, eyebrow powders have a similar consistency to an eye shadow. To use an eyebrow powder to fill in your brows, use an angled makeup brush to apply the powder in the sparse areas of your eyebrows.
- 5. Eyebrow stencil: This beauty tool helps beginners create an even and consistent brow look. Align the stencil with your brow bone, and use it as a guide when you apply makeup.
- 6. Tweezers: Use tweezers as an alternative to threading or waxing to remove brow hairs that fall outside of your ideal brow shape.
How to Fill In Eyebrows in 7 Steps
Here’s a step-by-step makeup tutorial to help you fill in your natural brows:
- 1. Choose the right product. Makeup artists suggest using different brow products depending on your hair growth. If you have thick, bushy eyebrows, opt for a brow gel, which helps keep hairs tame and in place. For thin eyebrows that require more shaping, use an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow powder to create volume and shape.
- 2. Select your shade. Choose an eyebrow pencil, powder, or gel based on your natural eyebrow and hair color. Identify the color range that best matches your natural look, and choose a tint, whether brunette, auburn, blonde, or black; or opt for clear gel.
- 3. Tweeze stray hairs. Prep your eyebrows by tweezing any stray brow hairs outside of your ideal brow look, but avoid overplucking.
- 4. Brush your eyebrows. Using a spoolie or eyebrow comb, brush your eyebrows upward to outline the eyebrow shape you want. Brushing your eyebrows also helps extend the hairs, creating the appearance of voluminous eyebrows.
- 5. Apply the brow product. Using short strokes, apply the brow product along your natural brow line, filling in any patchy areas. Apply brow gel directly to your eyebrow hairs as you would mascara. For eyebrow powders, dip an angled makeup brush into the powder first, gently tapping the brush to remove any excess product. You can then apply the powdered brush to your eyebrows. Follow the natural shape of your brow bone as a guide for your product application. As you apply the product, use upward motions to extend the length of your eyebrow hairs.
- 6. Outline the edges with a concealer. After applying your brow product, apply a small amount of concealer along the outline of your eyebrows to help define the shape.
- 7. Use a setting spray. A setting spray helps ensure your brow look is long-lasting. Hold the spray about six inches in front of your face and close your eyes before spraying the setting solution.
