[00:00:00.00] [MUSIC PLAYING] [00:00:13.35] - Oh, my goodness. I've been doing this 35 years. Started off at WFPR 14-Country, your hometown country friend since 1947. Yep, started off as a country music DJ. That was my first entrée into broadcasting. [00:00:28.95] Oh, I love radio. So it's different. It's different. Good Morning America is different from when I started in the 90s to what we see today. [00:00:40.75] But what has remained the same and how I've always approached it-- it's a very noble profession. That's never changed. The integrity, the storytelling, I want to tell someone's story. [00:01:00.62] It doesn't matter if it's a sports story or a news story, it's about storytelling. That's something that hasn't changed, getting to the truth. What has changed-- there are so many different ways that people get information now. [00:01:17.24] Before, back, way, way back in the day, it was just radio. Then TV comes along. But it was just network television. And then it was cable. [00:01:25.67] But now, as we know, social media, YouTube, there are just so many different ways that people get their information electronically than before. And that's good and bad. It's good for you in that there are many different opportunities. [00:01:42.66] You don't have to go the traditional way. You don't have to go to a local market like I did. You can start at a startup. You can start with your own YouTube channel that can, maybe, go viral and lead to something. [00:01:56.81] But if you want to be a traditional journalist-- and I hope that you do, again, because it's a very noble profession-- you approach it the same as I did. Why? I'm going to ask you. [00:02:12.85] I know you can't answer me right now. But why do you want to do that? Why do you want to be a journalist? And if your answer is anything other than you want to help tell people's stories, that you want to be a storyteller, if your first response is because you can get paid or you can do this-- No, it has to be because you want to be able to be a storyteller. [00:02:46.62] There are so many people who I work with now-- when I worked at ESPN and now at Good Morning America-- all our paths are different. There are some people from day one, they knew they were going to be a journalist. And they stayed that path. [00:03:01.13] There are many people who-- oh, my goodness, it's just varied how they got to where we all are together. But how we got there was different. And so what I would say to you is like, what do you want? [00:03:14.20] What keeps you up at night? What do you think about the most? What's in you? [00:03:20.41] What I appreciate and what I'm thankful for-- and I want you to do the same thing. What you see is what you get with me. So what I do in broadcasting and what I do in my real life, it's the same, how I approach it, who I am. [00:03:37.78] Now, there are some people in my industry that, in broadcasting, they're one way. And then, when you see them in person, they're ...
