NARRATOR: Kelly curates a wealth of experiences into every space, keeping ahead of trends and creating her own signature voice. As sophisticated as her work is, it is always designed for the comfort and joy of family life and the best of everyday living. [MUSIC PLAYING] KELLY WEARLSTLER: Creating a beautiful room is just as important as the experience. And what I mean by that is stimulating all the senses-- what you touch, what you see, what you feel, what you hear. It's a story. You're creating a story. And so you want it to unfold in the best possible way. We were asked to create a private dining room for a hotel in San Francisco. It was just a room, and we conjured up the story. I found this art, this tapestry of this woman, and I came up with a story of this is Gilda, and this is her room, and she's going to throw a fabulous dinner party. You were served on Gilda's China that she's had forever, and the dinner napkins are all embroidered, and there's a most fabulous music playing, and there are candles going, and the food is just so scrumptious. It's touching all the senses. Absolutely no detail is too small. Good design is important because it helps us live better. It helps us feel better, because we all want to live better. We all want to have a beautiful home that's a reflection of who we are. Having flowers in your kitchen in the morning-- it just makes you feel so good, having that incredible tea pot with a beautiful spoon when you're stirring your tea. Everything is an experience, and you should make it the best you can at home. And really put focus on the areas where you spend the most time-- your kitchen, your bedroom, your bathroom. And really look at those areas that are going to make you happy and bright in your everyday life. If we look good, we feel good. And if things are functional, we perform better in our everyday life. So functionality, good design, great experience-- they all go hand in hand. [MUSIC PLAYING] In this MasterClass, I'm going to teach you about finding your creative voice, discovering a story and designing into a story, and continuing with that narrative throughout your creative journey on your project. I'm going to teach you how to make an awkward space sane. I'm going to teach you how to find your style, how to find your inspiration, how to work with color and materiality and pattern and how to use lighting.
