HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON (VOICEOVER): Hello, I'm Hillary Rodham Clinton. WOMAN: She is a major in political science and a candidate for the degree with honors, Ms. Hillary Rodham. MAN: She has made history not just because she's a woman who has done what no woman has done before, but because she is a leader. WOMAN 2: A lawyer, a law professor, first lady of Arkansas, first lady of the United States, a US Senator, Secretary of State. Do you hear me? CROWD: Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. PERSON: The next president of the United States, Hillary Clinton. HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON (VOICEOVER): My entire life has been captured in job titles, and soundbites, and a seemingly endless parade of people with lots of opinions about what I should or shouldn't do, but not very much context. And this is a chance to share with you the why. Why did I choose the path that I took? Why I feel so strongly about the values that I believe in. And why did I keep going when sometimes things got hard? - The terrorist attacks at our diplomatic compound, and later at the CIA post in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 took the lives of four brave Americans. HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON (VOICEOVER): I've been reduced to tears. I've been frustrated beyond words. I've been disappointed by events, by people. I've had all of those experiences. - But in the end, I choose to keep going. I choose to be resilient. Let our legacy be about planting seeds in a garden you never get to see. That's why we're here, not just in this hall, but on this Earth. Every one of you has the ability to be resilient, to get through tough times, to stand back up when you've been knocked down, to overcome the disappointments and the setbacks that are part of the human journey. And I wanted to teach this MasterClass with the hope that out there, there will be many of you who will find new ways to be both resilient, but also kind, and brave, and supportive, and helpful to those around you. [MUSIC PLAYING] I was born in the city of Chicago. And I was so lucky when I was growing up to have parents and teachers who never imposed limits on me. They would tell me I could do better, I could do more. They stood with me. They kind of nudged me along. But in those days, the only women I knew who worked outside the home were my teachers and my librarians. There weren't very many women in the public eye that you could look to and try to model yourself after or be encouraged by. And thank goodness they kept introducing me to women that I didn't learn about very much in school. Why don't you learn about Amelia Earhart, who was a famous woman pilot, or Maria Tallchief, who was a Native American ballerina, Margaret Chase Smith, a Republican woman Senator from the state of Maine? So along the way, there were just a lot of personal influences and those from a distance that made me think, wow, once I decide what I want to do, I should ...
