[MUSIC PLAYING] [BIRDS CHIRPING] DONNA FARHI: I have been practicing yoga since I was 16, and I'm now 61. And I practice yoga because it enables me to enjoy and sustain all the activities in my life that have meaning to me. So I've decided to dedicate my life to teaching others how to do the same. As a teacher, a student, and an author, I have learned that the foundational elements of yoga are key to a healthy mind, a healthy body, and a healthy spirit. And this is important because I think the heart of yoga is about learning how to be truly compassionate and kind to yourself. And if you can learn how to do that, it's likely you're going to be able to be kind and compassionate to others. When we live in the field of that kindness, I think it also generates the kind of world that we want to live in. This is the heart of yoga to me. I'm Donna Farhi, and this is my MasterClass. [MUSIC PLAYING] I've taken principles that I've been working with over a lifetime. And in teaching this MasterClass, I have boiled it down to the most essential principles that I would want to share with anyone. So this MasterClass is the distillation of all of those years of experience so that each chapter, you're getting something simple yet very essential to your understanding of what yoga is. I'll be teaching you how to set up for basic standing pose work. I'll be teaching you about traditional practices such as the Sun Salutation. I'll be offering you a way into committing yourself to the practice of relaxation as well as some practices that can be very healing for those of you who are coming into yoga with limiting conditions in your body. It's about you entering into a form and finding how that form is going to be expressed through your body. If you're new to yoga, this MasterClass might be a refreshing surprise. It might completely wipe away the preconceptions that you have about what yoga is. And in doing that, it offers an invitation to you to enter a practice that you might not have considered was suitable for you. If you've been practicing yoga already for quite some time, I think this class is still going to give you a reorientation around not only how you can practice but why and to revoke some kind of inspiration for yourself that gives you an even greater motivation to continue the practice. And practices like yoga bring people back to a sense of what is truly important, what is to be cherished, what is to be preserved, what is to be cared for. And that consciousness is very much needed now in the world.
