Polish architects Szotynscy & Zaleski began designing Krzywy Domek in 2001. Construction began in January 2003 and was completed within a year. In 2004, Krzywy Domek opened to the public. Krzywy Domek received several awards and honors, earning a spot as one of the seven wonders of the Tricity area, which includes the neighboring cities Gdańsk and Gdynia.
Architects Szotynscy & Zaleski drew inspiration from the fairytale illustrations of Polish illustrator Jan Marcin Szancer as well as the surreal drawings of Swedish artist Per Dahlberg.
