Can Dogs Drink Beer?
No, dogs cannot drink beer or other alcoholic beverages. Beer can cause alcohol poisoning even in small amounts, especially for small dog breeds. In severe cases, alcohol toxicity can lead to organ failure and death.
Is Beer Bad for Dogs?
As an alcoholic drink, all beer contains ethanol; even beers with low alcohol content are dangerous for pets because dogs cannot metabolize alcohol. This means that small amounts of alcohol can make your dog feel drunk and tipsy, and larger amounts can quickly lead to alcohol poisoning.
What to Do if Your Dog Accidentally Drinks Beer
Dog owners should never give pets any alcohol. If your dog drinks alcohol by accident, monitor them for signs of alcohol poisoning and provide them with water to prevent dehydration. You may notice the expected effects of alcohol, including a slowed heart rate, drooling, and a loss of coordination as the alcohol depresses their central nervous system. If you notice symptoms of alcohol poisoning such as low body temperature, dehydration, muscle tremors, low blood pressure, and low blood sugar, call poison control immediately.
