TONY HAWK: The first trick I learned, I watched someone go up a curb on their skateboard. And I thought that was magical, like that defied gravity. It was like they could maneuver the streets and the urban landscape. And you could go up a curb, and I was like, I want to learn that. I felt like suddenly, I can control what I'm doing and where I'm going. And I could ride my skateboard all throughout it. I felt empowered. [MUSIC PLAYING] Street skating is the act of skateboarding on the terrain that you would find in a typical suburban landscape. So that includes handrails, stairs, ledges, gaps, literally the streets. And it's a lot to learn, and we're going to teach you the best techniques on how to do it safely. So we're using a skate park to teach street skating because it's a controlled environment. And we have all the elements here, elements that you would encounter out in the streets. But we're not going to get kicked out of this place. [SKATEBOARD CLATTERING] Skateboarding can be a dangerous activity. Using protective gear is recommended. In my class, you'll see trained professionals in a controlled environment. Please use extreme care when attempting these activities on your own. A backside pop shove-it is the act of doing an ollie and turning your board a 180 in the backside direction under your feet, and then catching it with the feet after the turn and putting it back down. It's a very subtle move. It all happens as you ollie the board. And so basically, as you ollie the board, you kick your back foot just a tad behind you. And you kick your front foot just a tad in front of you, and that gets the board moving. And if you're snapping the ollie properly, it will immediately do a 180 under you. In fact, a lot of times, it overturns. And the way to remedy that is just to give it a little less push in that direction. I like to set up my feet so that my front heel is hanging off a little bit off the board, and my back toe is more pressed on the tip of the tail. And that way, when the board does come around, I have a better chance of catching it and landing it properly. Because if you don't preposition your feet, it's a good chance you're going to land either with the board turned too far or with your toes hanging way off the front. And that's the first mistake of pop shove-its. And so if you can just find that balance of positioning your feet and snapping the board in that direction but very lightly, you'll find that it comes to your feet quickly and then you can put it back down. [MUSIC PLAYING] A frontside 180 ollie is the act of doing an ollie and then turning in the frontside direction 180 and landing backwards. And it's sort of a three-part technique. It starts with the regular ollie, but as you're snapping the ollie, you start to open up your shoulder and turn your torso in the frontside position. And then as you're leveling out your board, you're usually about halfway into that turn. An...
