Thank you so much for watching a day in the life of Martha Stewart, my MasterClass. And I hope that you can see the way that I approach a problem and the way that you too, as the viewer, can approach a problem. I like to consider all options. Can I find other people, like-minded people that will work on this project? Will I be successful with this project because do I really believe in this project? These are all the kinds of thoughts that run through my mind when considering a business. Well, my universe encompasses the subject of L-I-V-I-N-G-- living. Living is such an immense subject matter. And it is a fascinating subject matter. It involves the home, the family, the celebrations, the education, the holidays, the collecting, what I call my core content areas of my business, the reading, the books, the literature, the television, the product development. When I started Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, I was a young 50-year-old, newly divorced, and I really wanted to make a mark in my business. I wanted that business to thrive. I knew that I had to actually support myself. I wanted to make money. I had to build something that would have lasting value. I had one child. I had an obligation to my child and, hopefully, her future. It was daunting and yet exciting. And I approached it that way, as an exciting opportunity, to build something that was lasting that my grandchildren would understand and like very much, which they do. They're really getting into it right now. The Cornish hens are the first things that we have to get on the barbecue. MARTHA STEWART: Age is not the focus in my world. What we do is my focus. How we do it is my focus. A lot of people have portrayed me as a tough boss. That's not such a bad thing because I'm tough not only on myself, but I can also be tough on my employees. And when I mean tough, not mean or condescending, but really and truly critical in a good way. Criticism is very important in a business. MAN: Spray bottle. Is that glass? MAN: Yes, glass. The one thing, these have to work. They cannot leak. Yes. I am out there at the same time that somebody who's working on my farm is out there. Everyone comes to work early. I get up early. I'm with them. I drive around on a regular basis just to check in on people, make sure they're okay, that they know what they're doing that day. That's the farm work. But, in the office, it's the same thing. I try to keep abreast of what everybody working on Martha Home is doing. I want to know where they are, who they've spoken to. I'm curious. Curiosity is extremely important to me in terms of really figuring out what people are thinking. If they're curious, I like them. Once an employee gets to know me, they're not so fearful. They and I have a much better rapport knowing that we're both striving for excellence.
