[00:00:00.00] [MUSIC PLAYING] [00:00:04.44] PETE ESCOVEDO: What? [00:00:05.42] SHEILA E: [00:00:09.88] - Yeah. [00:00:12.11] PETE ESCOVEDO: Uh-huh. Come on now. You got it. Keep going now. Yeah. [00:00:30.57] - Huh? [00:00:31.07] - Yeah. [00:01:01.51] - Yay. [00:01:02.57] We enjoy this and any chance that we have to be able to play with pops. Pops has his band. And Juan plays with him, and Peter Michael plays with him. And when I get a chance, I get to sit in, play with him as well. What I've learned is that family is everything. It is a gift and something so I say rare. You can probably count maybe on two hands how many families are in the music business, the music industry, and able to play together still. [00:01:30.38] Family means everything to us. It is the foundation of who we are. You know, it starts with the foundation of family. And it's so important. But this brings back, you know, memories. It's like, this is how we grew up. We-- it all started because of him right here, my daddy. [00:01:46.86] - It's all my fault. [00:01:47.78] [00:01:49.31] - It's his fault. If he was a carpenter, we probably would have been carpenters. But no. [00:01:53.38] JUAN ESCOVEDO: I don't know about that. [00:01:54.07] - That's right. You know, because of my early beginnings, I didn't-- I didn't in a sense want the kids to be musicians because it's such a hard road to travel. So I kind of kept them away from it. But every time I would go on the road, when I'd come home, I knew they were playing the instruments because everything was changed around. But at 84 years young, I'm getting to the point of shifting all of this over to these kids over here. They still don't have it, though, but I-- [00:02:28.20] [00:02:29.30] Trying to get them to do it right. Know what I mean? But, uh-- [00:02:32.80] JUAN ESCOVEDO: Thanks, pop. [00:02:33.27] - Yeah, it feels really good for me. It's been quite a journey. But you know, you pass the baton on to the younger people. And I'm sure they're gonna carry it on forever and ever, and it's a good thing. [00:02:45.56] - We grew up playing together and playing with a lot of musicians. And nowadays, a lot of people play in their room with a computer by themselves. So it is harder in this day and age to, you know, put a band together or play with people. And a lot of people are just sending email-- emailing each other tracks, and they come back and it's done. [00:03:09.38] I do the same thing. We all do the same thing. But every now and then, we get to get together as a band. And we look around like, wow, this is cool. Like, we actually get to play in a room together. And right now, you have four drummers who, the hardest thing for anybody to do is stay out of the way. How do we not overplay with each other? [00:03:29.18] And that's just from playing with other bodies. I know-- I can hear him. I can hear her. I can hear pops. Without looking, I can just feel it and I can hear it, and I know...
