[MUSIC PLAYING] ESTHER PEREL (VOICEOVER): I've been practicing psychotherapy for over 35 years, working with couples, families, co-workers, and colleagues from all over the world to help them navigate the complexities and the challenges of modern relationships. People often ask me, what's the difference between relationships at home and relationships at work? In my opinion, we bring our personal lives into our work relationships, and vice versa. We bring our professional relationships into our personal lives. As a psychotherapist, my role is to invite you into a space, a psychic space, a physical space, where you get to ponder the imponderables, where you get to explore the meaning of your life, your history, your relationships, your work life. I'm sometimes a guide, sometimes a whisperer, sometimes an interpreter, and sometimes a cop. NARRATOR 1: Esther Perel, she is one of the most fascinating psychotherapists the world's ever known. She's a New York Times bestselling author, recognized as one of today's most insightful and original voices on modern relationships. - There are so many people who have seen your TED Talks about relationships. While the context of these relationships is different, we have a lot to learn from our personal relationships that we can directly apply to the workplace. Relational intelligence is the key to our sociability. It is the set of skills we use to navigate our relationships and connect with others. I want to invite you to look at relationships as an architecture, as a set of building blocks that are put together but they are mobile. They can switch. They can turn around. And they can create new shapes and new forms. Sometimes we get stuck in certain forms and certain patterns because that's how we learned it and that's how we settled on it. But we can actually learn to move these building blocks in different constellations. I want to teach you, and practice with you, how to move those building blocks with more creativity, more fluidity, and more diversity as a way to lay a foundation for relational intelligence and more thriving relationships altogether. Relational intelligence is the set of skills that we bring to knowing how to live our relationships. And I prefer it to emotional intelligence beca...
