What Is Liquid Eyeshadow?
Liquid eyeshadow is a liquid formula of pigmented eye makeup. Liquid eyeshadow can come in a tube with a doe-foot applicator or a squeeze tube. Liquid eyeshadow is available in various colors, with glittery, matte, metallic, or pearlescent finishes.
Unlike powder eyeshadow, liquid eyeshadow stays in place easily with less runoff. Its consistency is similar to cream eyeshadow, but you can create precise lines with liquid eyeshadow. Liquid eyeshadow is simple to blend and is long-wearing compared to other beauty products for eyes.
How to Apply Liquid Eyeshadow
Follow this step-by-step makeup tutorial for applying liquid eyeshadow.
- 1. Prime your eyelids. Most liquid eyeshadow formulas include primer to ensure long-lasting color. If your liquid eyeshadow does not have priming capabilities, apply primer to your eyelids before applying the eyeshadow.
- 2. Apply the eyeshadow. Apply the liquid eyeshadow using the doe-foot applicator, or squeeze the eyeshadow onto your finger or a synthetic brush. Apply a small amount onto the crease of your eyelid, then fill in the rest of the eyelid, using sweeping strokes. To create a subtle wash of color on your eyelid, spread a thin layer of the eyeshadow on your lids.
- 3. Add more color. You can apply additional layers of pigment for a bolder look. Apply each layer to the creases and corners of your eyelid, and use a clean eyeshadow brush to blend with the base color.
- 4. Blend your eye makeup. Use a clean, fluffy brush to buff the edges of the eye makeup until they blur to create a more subtle look.
7 Tips for Using Liquid Eyeshadow
Consider these makeup tips and tricks for using liquid eyeshadow:
- 1. Apply liquid eyeshadow first. Add mascara and eyeliner to your eyes after you apply the liquid eyeshadow.
- 2. Shake the liquid eyeshadow. Before applying your liquid eyeshadow, shake the bottle to ensure it’s well-mixed and not runny.
- 3. Blend liquid eyeshadow when it’s wet. When applying multiple layers of liquid eyeshadow, you do not need to wait for the previous layers to dry before blending. Liquid eyeshadow is easier to blend when it’s wet.
- 4. Add a layer of shimmer. You can layer liquid eyeshadow over powder eyeshadow or vice versa. Place a shimmery shade of liquid eyeshadow as a topper for your finished eye look for a glam eyeshadow look.
- 5. Create contrast on your lids. To make your eyeshadow pop, add a contrasting color in the area from your eyelid to your brow bone.
- 6. Brighten your eyes. Add a lighter shade of eyeshadow, such as white or peach, to the inner corner of your eyes for a brightening effect.
- 7. Use liquid eyeshadow as liner. Many makeup artists use liquid eyeshadow as eyeliner for a smudge or smoky eye effect. You can use an eyeliner brush to apply the liquid eyeshadow to your lash line.
