What Is a Margarita?
Margarita translates to “daisy,” a vintage name for a sour that uses a liqueur as a sweetener. The essential ingredients in a classic margarita are fresh lime juice, tequila, and triple sec (such as Cointreau). The triple sec provides sweetness to balance the lime juice, but agave syrup is a popular alternative that serves the same function. Variations on the margarita involve the addition of other fruit flavors and sweeteners.

For the garnish:
