What Are Turtle Brownies?
Turtle brownies are chocolate brownies that contain caramel and pecans. They are a brownie version of turtle candies, a classic treat featuring a glob of caramel, four pecans that stick out the sides, and a chocolate topping. The idea is that the candy looks like a turtle, with the pecans being the legs and the chocolate being the shell.
3 Ways to Make Chocolate Turtle Brownies
As long as brownies contain pecans and caramel, they are turtle brownies; however, there are a few different ways to combine those flavors in brownies. Here are three ways to make chocolate turtle brownies:
- 1. Mix chewy caramel and pecans into brownie batter. Make a classic chocolate brownie recipe or start with a box of brownie mix and add chewy caramel candy and toasted pecans. Each brownie bite will have caramel and crunchy pecans.
- 2. Sandwich the caramel and pecans between the brownie layers. Pour half the brownie batter into a baking pan, then drizzle caramel sauce or sprinkle chewy caramel candy over the batter, followed by chopped pecans. Spread the remaining brownie batter over the top before baking the dessert.
- 3. Top the brownies with caramel sauce and pecans. Bake a standard chocolate brownie recipe, then top the baked brownies with caramel sauce or a caramel topping, chopped pecans, and chocolate chips. The residual heat will warm the ingredients on top of the brownies.
