In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the tomatoes, chicken broth, salt, and garlic powder to a gentle boil.

Lower the heat and simmer until the tomatoes have reduced by about a third, about 7–10 minutes.

In a cast-iron skillet over medium heat, warm the bacon grease until slightly bubbling.

Add the flour to the bacon grease and whisk to combine evenly. Remove the skillet from the heat once the mixture is smooth and pale brown or beige (like the color of tahini), approximately 2–3 minutes.

Pour the roux into the pot of tomatoes and stir the mixtures together until smooth.

Add the milk to the tomato mixture and stir until just combined.
