What Is Strawberry Sangria?

Traditional Spanish Sangria is made by combining red wine, brandy, and fresh fruit. Strawberry Sangria is a fizzy, strawberry-filled twist on the classic red Sangria. Still or sparkling rosé wine takes the place of red wine, and triple sec (or orange liqueur) stands in for brandy. (You can also substitute a dry white wine—such as sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio—for rosé.) A quick, easy, homemade strawberry syrup takes this summer drink to the next level. A garnish of fresh strawberries, lime slices, and fresh mint leaves is the perfect way to top off this fruity concoction. All the ingredients come together in one large pitcher, making it perfect for your next summer party.

Ingredients

  1. 1

In a large saucepan, combine 8 cups of trimmed and halved strawberries, water, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and then remove it from heat. Cover the pot and let it cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

Over a glass measuring cup, press the strawberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Discard the solids. This should yield about 3 cups of simple syrup.

  3. 3

In a large pitcher, add simple syrup, rosé, triple sec, syrup, and the remaining fresh strawberries. Stir to combine. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours before serving.

  4. 4

When ready to serve, stir in sparkling water. Pour the drink into white wine glasses filled with ice. Garnish with mint leaves and lime slices.
