What Is a Strawberry Mojito?

A Strawberry Mojito is a berry-flavored variation on a Mojito, the classic Cuban rum cocktail. A traditional Mojito cocktail contains light rum or dark rum, lime juice, mint, simple syrup, and soda water to make it fizzy. A Strawberry Mojito also adds muddled strawberries, making it a light summer cocktail.

3 Tips for Making a Strawberry Mojito

To make your Strawberry Mojito even more delicious, follow one of these steps below:

  1. 1. Use light rum. Traditional Mojito recipes call for light rum or dark rum. For Strawberry Mojitos, use light rum, which won’t overpower the light flavor of the strawberries.
  2. 2. Select fresh ingredients. Fresh ingredients give a Mojito a bright taste. Use fresh lime juice by juicing lime wedges and fresh, in-season strawberries. You can substitute the strawberries with other seasonal berries, such as blueberries or blackberries, or combine different berries to make a summery berry Mojito.
  3. 3. Make it a mocktail. If you want to create a non-alcoholic Strawberry Mojito, just omit the rum and add more soda water.

Ingredients

  1. 1

Separate the mint leaves from their stems, leaving the tops intact. Discard the stems and set the tops aside.

  2. 2

Drop the mint leaves, strawberries, and simple syrup into a tall glass.

  3. 3

Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, muddle the ingredients to release their flavor.

  4. 4

Add the lime juice and white rum to the mixture. Stir lightly to combine the ingredients.

  5. 5

Add ice cubes or crushed ice until the glass is about halfway full.

  6. 6

Using a bar spoon, pull some of the mint and strawberries up from the bottom of the glass while swizzling the liquid and ice. Don’t agitate the mix too vigorously.

  7. 7

Top off the glass with soda water.

  8. 8

Make a mint bouquet: Collect the mint tops and place them tightly in your palm. Lightly brush them with your opposite hand until they are upright and uniform. For extra aromatic effect, slap the mint bouquet against the back end of your opposite hand. Insert the bouquet garnish in the ice next to the straw.
