What Is A Roasted Pear?

A roasted pear cooks in a high-temperature oven until the fruit becomes soft and caramelized. Roasted pears are naturally sweet but pair well with savory flavors, making them a good brunch item or side dish for savory dinners.

Roasted pears are similar to baked pears; however, baked pears cook at a lower temperature. The flavor is also similar to poached pears, although poaching pears requires a gentler cooking process than roasting does.

3 Ways to Serve Roasted Pears

Roasted pears are sweet and pair well with both sweet and savory flavors. Here are a few flavor combinations worth trying:

  1. 1. On grilled cheese sandwiches: Layer slices of cheddar cheese or another sharp cheese on slices of bread. Then place sliced roasted pears on top of the cheese before sandwiching the bread and toasting it on the stove until the cheese melts and the bread is golden brown.
  2. 2. With cheese and nuts: Blue cheese, goat cheese, and mascarpone cheese, along with toasted pecans and walnuts, pair well with roasted pears. Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the pears to add acidity and serve the roasted fruit alongside a variety of cheeses and dried fruits, such as cranberries.
  3. 3. With vanilla ice cream: Dollop a scoop of cold and creamy vanilla ice cream on top of roasted pear halves. The warm pear melts the ice cream and combines with the pear juice to create a thick sauce.
