What Is Prosciutto Bruschetta?

Prosciutto is a classic Italian appetizer consisting of grilled bread and slices of prosciutto, a type of Italian cured meat. In Italy, bruschetta refers to the grilled bread, but in other parts of the world, it refers to the topping on the grilled bread. Prosciutto bruschetta typically features a rustic-style country loaf or sourdough and thin slices of cheese and prosciutto.

3 Tips for Making Prosciutto Bruschetta

To customize prosciutto bruschetta, consider the following tips:

  1. 1. Select a cheese. You can add slices of cheese to prosciutto bruschetta. Some popular cheese choices that go well with prosciutto include Parmesan, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, brie, goat cheese, and burrata.
  2. 2. Toast the bruschetta. If you use mozzarella, brie, or another melting cheese, you can toast your bruschetta in the broiler after adding the toppings. This will melt the cheese and make the prosciutto crispy.
  3. 3. Use additional toppings. You can add the traditional tomato bruschetta topping of diced tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, balsamic vinegar, and basil to give the bruschetta more flavor. For sweetness, you can put a small dollop of jam or balsamic glaze on top of the prosciutto bruschetta.
