What Is a Pecan Pie Cobbler?
Pecan pie cobbler is dessert with pecan filling and a fluffy, biscuit-like base. Cobblers are typically fruit-based, like peach cobbler or blueberry cobbler, but swapping the sweet fruit for nutty pecan pie filling makes for a dessert that tastes like a traditional pecan pie, without the effort of having to make pie crust. Unlike fruit cobblers, pecan pie cobbler is made by placing the batter in the baking dish first and then adding the filling on top. As the cobbler bakes, the fluffy topping rises around the nut mixture.
3 Tips for Making Pecan Pie Cobbler
Follow these tips to make the perfect pecan pie cobbler for Thanksgiving dessert or a fall potluck:
- 1. Use ample butter. Pecan pie cobbler recipes typically call for a full stick of butter, which you melt directly in your baking pan in the oven. While baking, the butter mixes with the brown sugar in the recipe to produce a gooey caramelization. Nonstick cooking spray will not have the same effect, so use butter.
- 2. Experiment with flour. To make a gluten-free version of this dessert, simply swap the all-purpose flour for your favorite gluten-free flour mix. You can also substitute up to half of the all-purpose flour in the recipe with an alternative flour, like corn, rye, spelt, or buckwheat.
- 3. Reheat in the oven. Pecan pie cobbler tastes best warm. To reheat, simply place the dish in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit until warm, about 20 minutes.
