What Are Lobster Tacos?
Lobster tacos are a fun twist on a classic handheld Mexican dish, consisting of a flavorful lobster meat filling in warm flour or corn tortillas. Similar to traditional tacos, you can serve lobster tacos with a sprinkle of cilantro, finely chopped white or red onion, lime juice, guacamole, pico de gallo, salsa verde, or salsa roja. A creamy remoulade sauce is another popular topping for lobster tacos.
4 Tips for Making Lobster Tacos
When making lobster tacos, consider the following tips:
- 1. Experiment with seasonings. Customize any lobster taco recipe with seasonings of your choice. Brighten up your lobster with add-ins like taco seasoning, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and fresh lime juice.
- 2. Make a remoulade sauce. For a fun twist, top your tacos with a creamy remoulade sauce. Remoulade is a chilled made from mayonnaise or oil and any combination of herbs, capers, spices, and pickles.
- 3. Cook the lobster correctly. Overcooking these delicate crustaceans will yield an unpleasantly chewy dish. Use a high-quality meat thermometer to monitor the temperature of the lobster tails as they cook. Remove the meat from the pan when they reach an internal temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature will rise by a few degrees after you remove the tails from the heat.
- 4. Store properly. It’s ideal to enjoy cooked lobster immediately, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. For long-term storage, remove the lobster meat from its shell and store it in a freezer-safe bag in the freezer for up to three months. Allow the meat to cool to room temperature before storing it in your freezer in an airtight container. When you’re ready to eat your lobster tails, defrost them overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
