Using Social Media for Business
Social media strategies for business can include various channels, formats, and content types, including social media posts, comments, likes, direct messages, live videos, forums, and reels.
Online marketing and a social media presence can be powerful tools for large or small business owners, enabling either to create and share content to drive traffic back to their product and interact directly with potential customers (especially millennials and members of Gen Z, who are the most active users).
Additionally, social media sites enable you to build relationships with your target audience in real time, increase your content creation, gather demographic information from new customers’ social media profiles, generate leads, curate and spread brand awareness, improve your search engine optimization (SEO), use hashtags to connect to wider spheres, evaluate against growth metrics, and more.
4 Social Media Tips From Kris Jenner
Here are a few tips from businesswoman Kris Jenner to help you develop successful social media marketing strategies:
- 1. Avoid drama. While some influencers use drama as content to get views and followers, Kris recommends focusing on great content to make your social media accounts safe, comfortable spaces for visitors. “I don't think you have to make up this drama-filled lifestyle to be popular on social media,” she says. “I think that you just need to spread love and good energy and have a place where people love to come visit.”
- 2. Be a force for good. “With a big audience comes a huge responsibility,” Kris explains. “We're responsible for really leading the way in a lot of cases on how we respond to … important issues.” Use your social media platforms to take a stand on well-known issues and to share information that spreads awareness about lesser-known topics to your followers and other social media users.
- 3. Find your favorite platforms. With so many popular social media platforms, managing multiple channels can be a full-time job. Kris recommends you start small with a platform or two to avoid overworking yourself. “Explore the venues and the platforms that you love, and then create some content that you can spread out amongst all of them,” she says. If you’re not sure yet which social networking site is the most effective for your business, “post on all of them until you can really figure out what your cadence is and how much time you have,” Kris advises. Then you’ll have the data to do a competitive analysis to determine which platform is best for you.
- 4. Ignore the haters. “People can be really mean on social media,” Kris says. “It really can ruin your day.” Even with a thick skin, it can be emotionally challenging to see rude or insensitive comments as your following grows. Kris recommends using the filtering functionality most social media channels have to block specific words you don’t want to see—this can help reduce the negativity on your feed and shift the focus back toward quality social media content and positivity.
