Bouclé (from the French word boucler, which means “to curl”) is a heavy textile containing nubby, looped yarn, often in two different shades. Bouclé refers to both the yarn and the fabric made from the yarn. The multiuse textile is known for its interesting visual texture and super-soft comfort. Fabrics similar to bouclé include twill, which mirrors its visual texture, and chenille and cashmere, which mirror its softness.

Bouclé is most often woven from traditional wool or mohair, but many designers have used the same woven technique with wool blends, merino, alpaca, linen, silk, cotton, and even rayon. While wool and mohair yarn are usually dry-clean only, more durable fabrics like linen and cotton bouclé can often hold up to an occasional machine wash.
