How to Measure Ring Size: 4 Tips for Measuring Ring Size

Your ring fits if it feels snug around the base of your finger but just loose enough you can take it off without using too much force. You should not have to resort to lathering your hands in oil to twist a ring off. Try pushing your ring up from its downmost side; there should be a little room between it and your finger. The ring should slide over the knuckle on your ring finger with just a little friction but not fall off when moving your hands around.

Fingers expand and shrink, so try wearing your ring throughout the day and ensure it can come off easily. For example, your body temperature is lower in the morning, and there is less blood flow to your extremities, causing your fingers to shrink. Exercise, hot temperatures, and a sodium-heavy meal, on the other hand, can cause swelling.

You can go to a jewelry store to measure your wedding ring or band, or you can measure your and your partner’s ring finger sizes at home. Consider the following at-home methods for measuring the correct ring size:

• Measure another ring. If you are shopping for an engagement ring for a surprise proposal, you might not be able to measure your partner’s ring. Make a reasonable size estimate before buying the ring, and ensure your local jeweler can resize it if necessary. You can try to measure a ring you or your partner might already wear. Trace the ring’s inside circumference onto a piece of paper and set it on a printout of a ring size chart to determine the size.
• Put measuring tape around your finger. Use a soft tape measure, which can more easily wrap around your finger. Loop the tape around your ring finger’s base in a circle. Finger sizes can differ from hand to hand, so measure the correct finger. Move the tape over your knuckles so you know it fits comfortably, and take an accurate measurement down to the eighth of the inch or millimeter. This measurement will be for the inside of the ring. Compare this measurement to a ring size chart to find your ring size.
• Wrap some string around your ring finger. Wrap string, floss, or a strip of paper around your finger and mark where it overlaps. Ensure you are not wrapping too tightly. There should be a little give so a ring can get over the knuckle, which will be wider than the base of your finger. Compare this measurement to a ring size chart to find your ring size.

When measuring your ring finger at home, follow these tips for accuracy:

1. 1. Do it at the end of the day. Fingers constrict in cold temperatures, so it’s best to measure your finger in the evening for a more accurate measurement since your body temperature is cooler in the morning.

In the United States and Canada, ring sizes for men and women range from three to thirteen. As the size increases, so do the ring’s diameter and circumference measurements.
