What Is Strawberry Milk?
Strawberry milk is a beverage made from milk and strawberry syrup. Commercial versions of strawberry milk often contain artificial flavors and food coloring, but it's easy to make your own homemade strawberry milk with real strawberries. All you need are strawberries, a glass of milk, and sweetener. It's a great way to use up extra strawberries during strawberry season, but you can also make strawberry milk with frozen strawberries.
3 Strawberry Milk Variations
Try these fun twists on classic strawberry milk.
- Korean strawberry milk: In Korea, strawberry milk is typically served as a layer of chunky strawberry puree topped with whole milk and drunk through a boba-style straw. As you drink the milk, the puree mixes with the milk, turning the drink pink.
- Non-dairy strawberry milk: You can make dairy-free strawberry milk with your favorite non-dairy milk, such as almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
- Other fruit milks: Once you've mastered strawberry milk, try the same method with other fruits like raspberries or plums.
2 Ways to Make Strawberry Milk
There are two ways to make strawberry milk: on the stovetop or in the fridge.
- The stovetop method: This method involves heating strawberries, sugar, and water in a pot until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries are tender. This method is faster than the refrigerator method, but it does require chilling the syrup in the fridge before combining it with the milk.
- The refrigerator method: This method is more hands-off, but it takes longer. It involves macerating the chopped strawberries with sugar for at least an hour—preferably overnight. As the strawberries sit with the sugar, the sugar dissolves and the flavors will meld.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the chopped strawberries, sugar, and ½ cup water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Cook, stirring occasionally, until the strawberry slices are tender, about 10 minutes.
Refrigerate the strawberry mixture until cool, about 20 minutes.
For smooth strawberry milk with an evenly pink color, use a blender or food processor to blend the strawberry mixture into a smooth puree. Then strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer. (Use the leftover chopped strawberries as a topping for ice cream or French toast.) For Korean-style strawberry milk, leave the strawberry mixture chunky.
Divide the strawberry syrup into four glasses and top with cold milk.
To make ahead, store the strawberry syrup in a jar or other airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, mixing 2 or more tablespoons with a cup of milk right before serving.
