What to Serve With Baked Brie
Baked brie can be made with pastry dough, phyllo, or puff pastry for varying degrees of textural effect. Pie dough will result in a denser, buttery crumb, like a galette, while phyllo or puff pastry will result in a more delicate, crispy outer coating. Accompaniments like jam or compote can either be served on the side, or spread directly onto the rind of the brie before sealing in dough and baking.
- 1. Compote or chutney: Take your cue from the seasons here: In fall, go for a tart, puckery cranberry sauce or stewed apples with black pepper, cinnamon, and clove; in summer, opt for soft raspberries with fresh thyme, and warm, honeyed stone fruit like peach or apricot. Serve on top of the brie or in a small bowl on the side so guests can drizzle at will.
- 2. Caramelized onions: The deep sweet-savory-smoky flavors of caramelized red onions are a perfect complement for the heavy cream and buttery mouthfeel of brie cheese. Serve them on the side, or chop and combine with slow-roasted garlic for the ultimate umami topper.
- 3. Spiced nuts: Play off the style of your baked brie with a batch of roasted, spiced walnuts or pecans; go spicy and savory with cayenne pepper, paprika, and sesame seeds, or sweet with maple syrup or brown sugar. Either way, the spiced nuts will highlight the nuttier nature of the cheese while cutting through the richness with bright flavors and crunch.
- 4. Baguettes: Baked brie calls for an equally delicious utensil: Put out a few baguettes for tearing, or slice into rounds and toast for dipping. Serve with a sharp knife, or cut ahead of time so guests can easily extract a neat wedge of brie at their leisure.
- 5. Fruit: Slices of fruit also work as tasty utensils for brie. Slice up fresh apples and firm pears and plate them alongside your baked brie for your guests’ dipping pleasure.

- 1
Beat the egg until incorporated and set aside. Line a baking sheet or baking dish with parchment paper, and preheat the oven to 400°F.
- 2
Allow the puff pastry to thaw for about 20 minutes, just until malleable. Lightly dust a clean work surface with all-purpose flour, and roll out into a rough square about 1-inch thick.
- 3
Transfer dough to the baking sheet, and place the brie wheel in the center. Bring each edge of dough to the center, overlapping to seal. Make sure the cheese is completely and neatly sealed on all sides. Brush the dough with a light, even coating of egg wash.
- 4
Bake brie, rotating halfway through, until the puff pastry is evenly golden and crisp, about 30 minutes.
- 5
Remove from the oven, and allow to cool slightly before transferring to a serving platter or pie plate.
