How to Freeze Grapes
Freezing grapes is easy if you follow a few simple steps.
- 1. Wash and dry your grapes thoroughly. Wash your grapes to remove any residual dirt or pesticides. Consider buying organic grapes from the grocery store if pesticides are a concern. Put the fruit in a colander or salad spinner in your kitchen sink and rinse the grapes under your faucet’s spray setting. Let the excess water drain and then blot your grapes with a dry paper towel.
- 2. Spread the dry grapes on a baking sheet. Use wax paper or parchment paper to line a baking sheet. Place the grapes in a single layer on the baking tray, cover the tray with plastic wrap, and place it in the freezer.
- 3. Keep the tray of grapes in the freezer for three hours. A few hours should be enough time for the grapes to freeze solid. Depending on the type of grape, the total time of the freezing process may take slightly longer.
- 4. Transfer the frozen grapes into a plastic bag. Remove the grapes from the baking tray and place them into a plastic freezer bag. Seal the bag tightly and mark the date before putting it back in the freezer.
- 5. Store your frozen grapes for up to a year. To ensure maximum freshness, keep your grapes in the freezer for up to a year from the date on the label. Eat frozen grapes directly out of the freezer, or incorporate them into a sweet recipe.
How to Use Frozen Grapes
Frozen grapes make a great snack and frozen treat with very little prep time. Consider a few ways you can use frozen grapes and enjoy this summer fruit any time of year.
- 1. Make frozen grape popsicles. Puree your frozen grapes with a little grape juice and pour the mixture into plastic molds. Freeze your grape popsicles for at least four hours before eating them.
- 2. Blend grape sorbet. As with the popsicles, puree your grapes and use a food processor or blender to blend sorbet. Seedless grapes work best for sorbets and ice cream. Cotton Candy grapes are especially delicious in these frozen treats.
- 3. Infuse your morning smoothie with grapes. Red grapes or green grapes work well in smoothies, as long as they are seedless.
- 4. Chill a drink with frozen grape ice cubes. Use frozen grapes as ice cubes by tossing them directly in chilled drinks like iced tea or lemonade.
- 5. Serve frozen grapes as a chilled appetizer. Squeeze lemon or lime juice directly onto frozen grapes for a refreshing appetizer or snack. Sprinkle a pinch of Himalayan pink salt onto your frozen grapes for a sweet and savory flavor burst.
