What Is Liquid Blush?
Liquid blush or cream blush is a makeup product that livens up your complexion by adding a natural-looking flush to your cheeks. Liquid blush or cream blush is great for dry or mature skin since these formulas won’t stick in fine lines. Cream blush is great for its ease of use—you can apply it with your fingers, dabbing it into the skin and blending with your fingers for a fresh, glowy finish. Liquid formula is usually long-lasting and comes in shades of peaches, pinks, reds, oranges, and browns. You can find matte or shimmer liquid blush formulas.
How to Apply Liquid Blush in 3 Steps
Liquid blush is buildable and blendable. Follow the tutorial below to apply liquid blush:
- 1. Prep your face. Skincare is an essential part of makeup application. Wash your face and apply a moisturizer to hydrate your face so the makeup will adhere to your skin. In comparison to other types of blush, liquid blush is the most hydrating if you have dry skin.
- 2. Put on foundation and concealer. If you are using foundation and concealer, apply those products to your face before adding blush.
- 3. Apply the liquid blush. The most basic way to apply blush is to smile and find the apple of your cheek. Apply there and then blend up toward the temples to give your face a more natural flush. If your blush comes in a stick, swipe directly onto your cheeks. If it comes in a container, use your fingers to dab the product onto your face. You can also use a blush brush or makeup sponge—start at the apple of your cheeks, then blend in an upward motion.
4 Tips for Using Liquid Blush
When applying blush, keep these makeup tricks and hacks in mind:
- 1. Use liquid foundation with liquid blush. Use a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer and liquid concealer if you plan to use liquid blush. Layering powder and liquid makeup products can cause streakiness. For ease of blending, use an all-liquid base.
- 2. Consider your undertones. It is essential to pick the right liquid blush color for your skin type. Identify whether you have cool or warm undertones to your face. For the most natural look, choose a blush that matches your undertones: Peach for warm undertones, plum for cool undertones. For a blush makeup look that stands out, experiment with shades in the opposite undertone.
- 3. Add color in stages. Liquid blush has high pigmentation, so it’s better to apply a bit on your face and blend, then assess your blush look. Add more color if necessary—it’s easier to add color than remove it.
- 4. Boost your look with highlighter. After applying liquid blush, you can add highlighter or bronzer to add a warm tint to your face.
