What Is Ginger Dressing?
Ginger dressing is a salad dressing made with fresh ginger. It’s made like a vinaigrette, but with rice wine vinegar (or lime juice) instead of balsamic vinegar and sesame oil instead of extra-virgin olive oil. Optional ingredients include soy sauce or miso paste for salt and umami flavor. Add carrots to make carrot ginger dressing for more sweetness and color.
Origins of Ginger Dressing
Japanese restaurants in the United States likely developed ginger salad dressing to dress side salads with East Asian flavors. You can find ginger dressing at Japanese-American sushi restaurants and hibachi restaurants, as well as Chinese-American eateries.
