What Is Cashew Flour?
Cashew flour, also known as cashew meal, is a powdery substance made of ground cashews. This specialty paleo and gluten-free flour is easy to make at home. Just process raw cashews with a little sugar to keep the nuts from turning into cashew butter.
5 Ways to Use Cashew Flour
You can use cashew baking flour anywhere you would other nut flours—like pecan or almond flour—or coconut flour. Try it in:
- 1. Chocolate chip cookies: Swap one-third of the all-purpose flour in your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe for cashew flour. Or, for a gluten-free version, try replacing flour with a mix of rice flour and cashew flour.
- 2. Brownies: Make rich, fudgy brownies by eliminating the wheat flour and adding cashew flour instead.
- 3. Scones: Try substituting half the wheat flour in your favorite scone recipe for cashew flour. The result will be slightly nutty and creamy.
- 4. Tart and pie crusts: Cashew meal adds richness to both press-in crusts and pie dough. If you've experimented with almond meal pie crust before, you may find cashew crust to be less bitter.
- 5. Breaded chicken: For breaded chicken strips, cashew flour provides a satisfying alternative to breadcrumbs. Just be careful not to burn the nuts.
