Can Dogs Eat Ramen Noodles? Why Ramen Is Bad for Dogs

Ramen noodles may be a popular human food, but hazards abound when it comes to pets. Most ramen noodle recipes contain a great deal of sodium, and they feature seasonings that can cause dangerous allergic reactions in some dogs. What’s more, neither the coarse consistency of dry ramen noodles nor the long, stringy shape of cooked ramen noodles will fit a dog’s optimal manner of chewing, swallowing, and digesting. While dogs can theoretically eat plain noodles, it’s best to keep them away from ramen.

Ramen noodles are not dog food. They contain little nutritional value, and they pose health hazards to your furry friend. Here are three reasons to keep ramen noodles out of your dog’s digestive system:

• Flavoring: Anyone who has prepared instant ramen noodles is familiar with the flavor packets that come in the package. These flavor powders often contain garlic and onion, which are highly toxic ingredients to dogs, even in small quantities. Instant ramen noodles also include additives and preservatives (used to extend shelf life) that will not sit well with your pooch. All of these ingredients make ramen noodles bad for dogs.
• High sodium: Ramen noodle soup is almost always a high-sodium dish. Never serve your pooch meals with a high salt content. In worst-case scenarios, excessive salt intake can lead to hypernatremia (excessive sodium in a dog’s body), weight gain, kidney failure, heart problems, and other health issues.
• Allergies: Ramen noodles and ramen soup dishes contain wheat gluten, soy, and occasionally dairy and nuts. All of these ingredients have been linked to allergies in some dogs. Consult with your veterinarian about the likelihood of an allergic reaction.

Raw ramen noodles do not belong in your dog’s diet. Most dogs can eat a small amount of uncooked ramen noodles without adverse effects, yet the risk is not worth any potential benefits. Plain, raw ramen noodles primarily consist of wheat flour, which is not inherently toxic to canines. However, wheat is a type of carbohydrate, and a dog’s natural diet does not contain many carbs. More importantly, the texture and consistency of a block of dried raw ramen noodles can be very difficult for your dog to digest. Raw ramen noodles do not belong in your dog’s digestive system.
