- 1. Make your own simple syrup. Simple syrup is an essential cocktail ingredient that is simple to make at home. Combine one cup granulated sugar with one cup water in a saucepan, and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- 2. Use light rum. A traditional Mojito callS for light rum or dark rum. To make a Blackberry Mojito, use light rum, which is mild and will not overpower the tart-sweet flavor of blackberries.

Drop the mint leaves, blackberries, and simple syrup into a tall glass. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, muddle the ingredients to release their flavor.

Add the lime juice and white rum. Stir lightly to combine the ingredients.

Add ice cubes or crushed ice until the glass is about halfway full. Using a bar spoon, pull some of the mint and blackberries up from the bottom of the glass while swizzling the liquid and ice. Don’t agitate the mix too vigorously.
