What Is Balsamic Bruschetta?
Balsamic bruschetta is an Italian appetizer consisting of crispy, grilled bread topped with tomato, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. A typical bruschetta topping is ripe tomatoes with torn basil leaves, olive oil, and minced garlic. To make balsamic bruschetta, drizzle a good-quality balsamic vinegar or a thick balsamic glaze over the tomato mixture.
3 Tips for Making Balsamic Bruschetta
When making balsamic bruschetta, consider the following tips:
- 1. Make the topping ahead of time. You can prepare the tomato mixture ahead of time. Right before serving, prepare the bread and top with the tomato mixture.
- 2. Prepare a balsamic reduction. If you want a more intense balsamic flavor, make a balsamic reduction by simmering a half cup of balsamic vinegar in a saucepan until thickened and reduced by half.
- 3. Use Italian bread. Italian bread will give you a wider surface for the topping. (Use baguette slices, also known as French bread, to make a crostini, not a bruschetta.)

Meanwhile, prepare the bread. Set slices on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil on both sides. Either over a heated grill or oven set to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, toast until bread is crispy and golden brown on the outside, but still slightly pliable, flipping halfway through. Remove and let cool slightly, then rub the remaining clove of garlic over the surface of the toasted bread. Season with salt.
