What Is Avocado Spread?

Avocado spread is avocado mashed until creamy and simply seasoned with fresh lemon juice and salt. It may be simple, but the best avocado spread requires a perfect avocado: ripe enough to spread easily, but not brown. Paired with a squeeze of lemon juice, and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, the avocado really shines.

You can stir in extra ingredients to customize the avocado spread to your liking. Chopped herbs like fresh cilantro or spices like paprika, garlic powder, or freshly cracked black pepper can elevate the dish. You can use fresh lime juice instead of lemon or add finely chopped garlic cloves for more flavor. Stir in a little sour cream or Greek yogurt for extra creaminess.

3 Ways to Serve Avocado Spread

The possibilities for mashed avocado spread are endless. Consider the following ways to serve it:

  1. 1. Avocado toast: Use the spread to make your favorite avocado toast recipe. In the summer, top it with fresh sliced tomatoes and red onions. You can also use avocado spread as a condiment on closed sandwiches and tacos. As an avocado toast alternative, dollop avocado spread on a bagel in place of cream cheese and finish with everything bagel spice.
  2. 2. Avocado dip: Serve avocado spread with raw veggies such as carrots, radishes, and celery or tortilla chips to dip, similar to guacamole, for the perfect appetizer. Guacamole typically includes more vegetables, spices, and herbs than avocado spread, like chopped jalapeño and diced onion.
  3. 3. Avocado eggs: Stir some avocado spread into scrambled eggs for a boost of flavor with your breakfast.
